Swiss watch has been always popular in international market. According to the data released by the Swiss Watch Industry Federation (FH) on February 20, Swiss watch exports in January 2018 were 1.62 billion Swiss francs, a year-on-year increase of 12.6%.
Exports of all material categories have increased, with stainless steel watches (+11.0%) and gold watches (+16.7%) making the largest contribution. With the promotion of stainless steel watches (+6.1%) and other metal watches (+11.0%), the overall export volume increased by 2.5% year-on-year. Contrary to this trend, other material categories (-10.1%) fell sharply again.
In January 2018, many markets experienced strong growth. The Hong Kong market in China (+21.3%) hit the highest monthly increase in five years. The growth in the Chinese mainland market (+44.3%) remained strong, replacing the US market (-1.9%), which had been sluggish for more than two years, and climbed to second place. The Japanese market (+12.9%) also confirmed strong performance in recent months. Overall, the European market lags behind France (+19.0%). The UK market (+4.6%) rebounded and both the German market (-4.1%) and the Italian market (-4.7%) fell.
